Over 0.5 and Over 1.5 Goals Explained

Over 0.5 goals means at least one goal must be scored. Over 1.5 goals means at least two goals must be scored.

For a standard match-total market, add both teams’ goals together. It doesn’t matter which team scores or who wins.

1. What Do the Two Lines Mean?

The half-goal separates the possible results into two groups. A match cannot finish with exactly 0.5 or 1.5 goals, so neither line produces a push from the total landing exactly on it.

  • Over 0.5 wins with one or more goals. Only a 0–0 result loses.

  • Over 1.5 wins with two or more goals. A 0–0, 1–0, or 0–1 result loses.

These are minimum thresholds, not exact-score predictions. Over 1.5 still qualifies if the match produces three, four, or more goals.

2. Compare the Scoreline Examples

2–0 or 0–22WinsWins
2–1 or 1–23WinsWins
2–24WinsWins

Neither market requires both teams to score. A 2–0 result qualifies for over 1.5, but not for BTTS Yes.

Markets can also overlap: a 1–1 result qualifies for over 1.5 and under 2.5 goals.

3. Check Which Goals Count

Read the full market label before interpreting the number:

  • Match total: goals from both teams combined.

  • Team total: goals from the named team only.

  • First-half or second-half total: goals scored within that period.

Standard full-match totals generally cover 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding extra time and penalty shootouts unless stated otherwise. Check the provider’s rules for abandoned matches and other exceptions.

A lower threshold is not a guarantee or proof of good value. Whether a price is worthwhile cannot be established from the number of goals required alone.

4. Explore Goal Statistics and Match Filters

Statistics platforms can help you inspect scoring patterns or find fixtures matching research conditions. Historical frequencies describe a sample—not what must happen next.

  • Over25Tips provides goal-frequency tables, team scoring trends, and market-specific forecasts.

  • Footiqo offers filtered team and league statistics, including full-time and half-match views.

  • MakeYourStats provides configurable match feeds, research filters, and alerts, with advanced features requiring PRO access.

These are goal-research resources, not a claim that every platform provides dedicated predictions for both thresholds. Check competition coverage, available goal lines, and free-versus-paid restrictions.

Compare the directory listings above to find a research approach that fits the question you’re investigating.
